What it is
This is the first step of a double cleanse. You massage the oil onto dry skin to dissolve sunscreen, makeup and excess sebum, then add a little water so it turns milky and rinses away. It is sold in Korea in several sizes, with 200ml the standard bottle.
Why people buy it
It is light. Many oil cleansers leave a heavy film; this one uses thin esters as its main oils, so it rinses cleanly. The “pore control” name refers to how it lifts sebum plugs and the grits some people notice after massaging, rather than any change in pore size. It is one of the best-rated cleansing oils on Amazon, with tens of thousands of ratings on the US listing we compare.
Key ingredients in plain English
The base is ethylhexyl palmitate and caprylic/capric triglyceride, two light oils that break down makeup and sunscreen well. An emulsifier makes the oil mix with water so it does not leave residue. Small amounts of plant oils add slip. It also contains fragrance, which is worth knowing if your skin is reactive.
Who it suits, and who should skip it
Good for oily, combination and normal skin, and for anyone who wears daily sunscreen and wants a reliable way to get it off. People with acne-prone skin generally do well with light oils that rinse fully, but patch-test first. If you avoid fragrance, choose SKIN1004 Centella Light Cleansing Oil or a balm instead. Very dry skin may prefer a richer balm such as Banila Co Clean It Zero.
How to use it
Two pumps on dry hands and dry face. Massage for 30 to 60 seconds, paying attention to the nose and chin. Wet your fingers and keep massaging until it turns milky, then rinse with lukewarm water. Follow with a water-based cleanser.
How it compares
ma:nyo Pure Cleansing Oil is richer and more plant-oil heavy, and known for the same “grits” effect. Numbuzin No.1 cleansing oil comes in a very large 400ml bottle in Korea. Anua sits in the middle: lighter than ma:nyo, with a cleaner rinse.
Korea vs international version
Same product name and formula in Korea and on Amazon. Korean sets often include a bonus mini, which our price comparison does not count.
FAQ
Does it contain fragrance?
Yes, the published ingredient list includes fragrance. If fragranced cleansers bother your skin, look at SKIN1004's or ma:nyo's oils, or a balm.
Will it remove waterproof mascara?
It removes most mascara with gentle massage. For heavy waterproof formulas, many people use a dedicated eye remover first.
Do I need a second cleanser after it?
That is the usual Korean double-cleanse: oil first, then a gentle foam or gel such as Anua's Quercetinol foam.
