Our price verdict

What it is

CNP Laboratory (차앤박 in Korea) is a skincare brand founded by Korean dermatologists, and Propolis Lipcerin is one of its most popular products. It’s a thick, glossy lip treatment in a 15ml squeeze tube. Olive Young sells the clear Propolis version and several lightly tinted versions on the same page.

Despite the name, it’s mainly a ceramide lip balm. The Korean ingredient list for the clear version starts with rich emollients: triethylhexanoin, a plant-derived dimer dilinoleate, diisostearyl malate and dextrin palmitate, which gives it its thick, glossy body. Then come glycerin, water and a little dimethicone.

Further down are the treatment ingredients: madecassoside, cholesterol, five ceramides, squalane, shea butter, carrot seed oil and two peptides. Propolis extract is listed at just 3.2 ppm, and honey extract at 1 ppm. It contains fragrance.

Who it suits (and who should skip it)

Good pick if

  • Your lips get dry, tight or flaky, especially on flights or in winter
  • You want a glossy balm that also preps lips for tint
  • You like a hygienic tube instead of a pot you dip into

Skip it if

  • Fragrance in lip products makes your lips tingle or peel
  • You want an SPF lip balm for daytime sun
  • You have a bee-product allergy

What the ingredients do

The heavy-lifting ingredients are the emollients. They coat the lips, smooth flakes and slow down water loss, which is what makes lips feel comfortable. Dextrin palmitate thickens the oils into a balm that stays put.

Ceramides and cholesterol are lipids found naturally in skin’s barrier. Lips have a very thin barrier, so these help them stay soft between applications. Squalane and shea butter add more softness.

The peptides and propolis are present in tiny amounts. They’re part of the product’s story, but don’t expect them to change the shape or colour of your lips.

How to use it

CNP’s direction is simply to spread a suitable amount over the lips. Use it as often as you like during the day, and apply a thicker layer at night as an overnight lip mask.

To use it under tint, apply a thin layer, wait a minute, and blot with a tissue before applying colour. That keeps tint from settling into dry lines.

How it compares

Laneige Lip Glowy Balm is lighter and glossier, with a more cosmetic feel. hince Mood Enhancer Lip Glow adds more colour. Lipcerin is the most “treatment-like” of the three, thanks to its ceramides.

Is it worth buying in Seoul?

Yes, as an easy add-on. We haven’t matched a like-for-like 15ml tube on Amazon US yet, and Amazon UK mainly sells a different size, so there’s no direct comparison. Olive Young’s price is low, especially on promotion.

One tube is below the ₩15,000 tax refund minimum, so add it to a bigger basket. At 15ml it fits easily in a carry-on liquids bag.

FAQ

How much propolis is in it?

Very little. The Korean label lists propolis extract at 3.2 ppm (0.00032%). The ceramides, emollients and butters are what make it work.

Does it contain fragrance?

Yes. Fragrance is on the ingredient list, along with the fragrance allergens citronellol, geraniol, linalool and citral. Skip it if scented lip products irritate you.

Can I use it under lip tint?

Yes, that's a popular use. Apply a thin layer, wait a minute, blot, then apply tint. It helps tint go on smoothly over dry lips.

Is it safe for bee allergies?

It contains tiny amounts of propolis and honey extract. If you have a known bee-product allergy, it's safest to avoid it.
