What it is

This is the cleanser in SKIN1004’s Madagascar Centella line, the range built around its famous centella ampoule. It’s a white cream in a 125ml tube that whips into a dense, cushiony foam.

The Korean ingredient list explains why it feels softer than an old-school foaming wash. The main cleanser is sodium cocoyl isethionate, a mild surfactant also used in gentle cleansing bars. It’s paired with sodium methyl cocoyl taurate and potassium cocoyl glycinate, both from the “amino acid” family of gentle cleansers. Glycerin is third on the list, so skin is less likely to feel tight after rinsing. Centella extract comes sixth.

There’s no fragrance and no exfoliating acid, and nothing on the list stands out as harsh.

Who it suits (and who should skip it)

Good pick if

  • You have oily, combination or sensitive skin and like a foaming wash
  • Gel cleansers leave you feeling unclean, but traditional foams leave you tight
  • You want a simple second cleanse after an oil or balm at night

Skip it if

  • Your skin is very dry or flaky; a milk or cream cleanser will be kinder
  • You want an exfoliating or acne-treating cleanser with BHA
  • You prefer cleansers with almost no lather

What the ingredients do

Sodium cocoyl isethionate lifts oil and sunscreen without stripping as much as sulfates do, and it gives a rich, creamy lather. Sodium methyl cocoyl taurate and potassium cocoyl glycinate add mild cleansing power and help the foam rinse clean. Coco-betaine boosts the lather.

There’s a small amount of potassium cocoate, a soap-type ingredient, balanced with citric acid. Soap ingredients can raise a cleanser’s pH. The formula isn’t marketed as low-pH, so if you specifically want a low-pH wash, the COSRX gel is the safer choice.

Centella extract, hyaluronate and a few botanical extracts (coptis, eclipta, cacao) are present in small amounts. In a product you rinse off within a minute, they’re a gentle extra rather than a treatment.

How to use it

Squeeze a pea-sized amount, add water and work it into foam between your palms first. Then massage over damp skin for 30 to 60 seconds and rinse with lukewarm water. That’s SKIN1004’s own instruction.

At night, use it after a cleansing oil or balm if you wear sunscreen or makeup. In the morning, oily skin can use it alone; dry skin may prefer just water or a gentler gel.

How it compares

Round Lab 1025 Dokdo Cleanser is the closest rival: a similar creamy, mild foam, with a mineral-water slant. COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser suits you better if you want a lighter gel and a low pH. Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser is a gel-to-foam option with a fresher feel.

Is it worth buying in Seoul?

Yes. Olive Young sells the same 125ml tube that Amazon lists, so it’s a like-for-like comparison, and Seoul is usually far cheaper than Amazon US. Amazon UK is closer.

One tube is below the ₩15,000 tax refund minimum, so add it to a basket with other products. Cleansers are ideal suitcase fillers: unbreakable, inexpensive and used up quickly.

FAQ

Is centella the first ingredient?

Not on the Korean label. Water, the main surfactants and glycerin come first, and centella extract is sixth. In a rinse-off cleanser, the surfactants matter more than the extract anyway.

Does it contain fragrance?

No. The Korean ingredient list has no fragrance or essential oils.

Will it remove sunscreen and makeup?

It removes light sunscreen on its own. For waterproof sunscreen or full makeup, use a cleansing oil or balm first and this as the second cleanse.

Is it too drying for dry skin?

It's gentler than many foams, but foams are still more cleansing than gels or milks. Dry skin may prefer it at night only, or a cream cleanser.
